State Meet

Faith Makau ran her first State CC race today in Fresno on a beautiful November morning. She came through the first mile slightly fast in about 5:37 (she was in 30th place at this point). Coming through the 2.1 mile mark she had moved up to around 18th place. She finished with a strong kick, passing two other runners in the last 100m to place 15th, with a time of 18:26 (improving 50 seconds from 7 weeks ago on this course). She said that the race really kicked her butt. I'm proud of how hard she ran today...she can sleep well knowing she left everything out there. Next year I'll make sure that Faith is in a position to contend for the title.

SJS Section meet went well for many Enochs athletes today. The Frosh boys moved up from being ranked 6th to finishing 4th in the first race of the day. Blake Faria was 8th in Div I and earned a medal. The boys times were:

Blake: 12:29

Xavier: 13:21

Nick R: 13:44

Gurmukh: 15:18

The girls were very impressive today. Faith Makau wins the Section individual title by breaking 19 minutes. Her time ranks somewhere in the top 15 times run on the course. She was trailing a runner from Vintage until the halfway point, when she left her to create a gap on the field. She was able to kick in for a comfortable finish and the title. Hailey Hinkle improves 27 seconds from the Bronco Invite (run on the same course) and earns a medal placing 21st. Both girls ran smart, tough races.

Josh had some trouble with the chip on his shoe, and didn't run up to his standards. However, I'm very proud to have had Josh on the Cross Country team for the last 4 years. He's been the example of hard work for the rest of the boys team, and he will be missed.

Subsections in Angels Camp

Enochs High ran in Angels Camp on Saturday in some unseasonably cold conditions. That did not deter the runners from posting some great marks late into the season. Results can be found HERE. 10 runners qualified to run in the SJS Section meet next Friday. The frosh boys team, Josh Rau, Faith & Hailey will be making the trip to Folsom. For the rest of the runners...great job and I'm looking forward to having you all back next year.

MMC Final

I couldn't be happier with the results from the MMC Final. Of the 33 runners that had run the course before, 32 of them PR'd. The Varsity Boys improved on their place from last year, earning 4th. The Varsity Girls had a great season, and were on their way to being undefeated...but an untimely injury kept them from the top of the podium. It was an unfortunate thing to have happen, but the lesson to be learned is that the memories and experiences from running day in and day out with teammates and friends is more important than winning a league championship . I'm proud of the hard work they put in together. The girls ended up 3rd, as did both Frosh/Soph teams. I have great hope in the future of the team...I'm excited to see what next year will bring.

Bronco Invite

6 Enochs runners ran at the Bella Vista Bronco Invite on the 15th. Faith tied her time from last year's Section race (and 25 seconds faster than the same race last year) and Hailey continued her PR streak to 5 races, by bettering last year's time on this course by 2:04. Hopefully we can get some runners back here on the 11th for Sections. (The above picture is of the smallest CC runner I've ever seen)

Cluster Meet #3

Quick recap of todays races at East La Loma: F/S Girls hold steady with a third place finish overall...F/S Boys ran well as a group and finished second to Modesto (who are just at arms reach away)...Varsity Girls had a setback due to an injury to Tici and placed 3rd (tied for 1st with Modesto in the overall standings)...and Varsity Boys racked up a bunch of PR's (as did many other runners today). This concludes the dual meet scoring portion of the season. The MMC final on the 28th will be championship scoring and a team will be rewarded 2 points for every team they beat (as opposed to one during the regular season).

Clovis Invite

4 Enochs runners ran the state meet course at Woodward Park on Saturday. The course isn't known to be excessively hilly, but it's much hillier than our runners were used to. It was great practice for the courses they will face in November. Next week...Willow Hills.

Artichoke Invitational

The weather couldn't have been better for the Artichoke Invitational last Saturday. High of 72 and low of 60. By the end of the day 8 of the 9 runners that had run last year PR'd and many newcomers had great races. Blake Faria becomes #4 all-time for Enochs (including upperclassmen). Kenneth PR'd by 47 seconds and is still undefeated in beach football. Jade and Amanda both PR'd by over 1:20. This meet continues to be a great venue for team bonding.

Cluster Meet #2

The margin between winning and losing can be very thin sometimes...as evident in the picture above of the F/S girls scores. The ladies were edged out of 2nd place by only 2 points. The boys were able to take advantage of a weakened Gregori team and beat all teams except for Modesto. The Varsity girls maintained their perfect record with a close victory over Modesto and Downey. The race looked a bit different than last week. The pack ran through 1 mile rather slowly (evidenced by the large number of girls in the front pack). The pace eventually quickened, and when Hailey surged around mile 2, the race to the finish had begun. Faith, Hailey and Tici were able to 1-2-3 all teams except Downey (who has a deeper team). The Varsity boys scores will be up tomorrow.

Chocolate Milk

Just in case anyone was wondering why chocolate milk is a good recovery drink, here is a link to a study done by the University of Texas on the benefits of drinking it post-workout. LINK. It isn't the only decent recovery drink (though dairy processors would like for you to think so), 12 oz. of it does meet the recommended amount of protein for a post-workout/race meal.

Cluster Meet #1

There is always some anticipation going into the first MMC cluster meet. Until this point, teams have not run their full squads...which leaves many question marks on how each team will place. Our Enochs F/S boys and girls ran well today, each placing 3rd out of 7 teams. This bodes well for the future of the team. The girls finished 1-2-3 on all teams except Beyer, which guaranteed victory. The victories were very narrow...we will need to fight hard all season to capture the league title again. Josh Rau finished 9th in the Varsity Boys race, but our 5th runner came in 44th, which pushed us down to 5th out of 7 teams. Pictures of the race can be found here and here.

Sierra Invitational

Enochs' first race of the season took place in some hot and humid weather on Saturday. The following runners made the top 10 in their races: Blake Faria (8th), Tici Joven (2nd), and Hailey Hinkle (8th). Results for the race can be found here. Scott Durham of Downey took a ton of pictures, which can be found here and here. Enochs will race at Legion again next Wednesday, the 14th.

League Meet Locations Decided

The location of the 4 league meets was decided today at the MMC CC coaches meeting. Cluster meet #1 will be held at Legion park. Cluster meet #2 will be held at Gregori High (seen above). Cluster meet #3 will be held at East La Loma park. The league final will be held, as always, at Legion.

Summer 2011

The Enochs High School Cross Country team is having an optional summer practice, held weekly at 8:30 am on Tuesdays and Fridays at Ustach Park (at the bench pictured above) and on Wednesdays at Riverbank High School (meet in the parking lot). We emphasize running mileage on T & F and running hill repeats on W. If you have any questions email Coach Mann.
